Brugnasco

Voluntary commitment

The club "Basler Ferienhaus Brugnasco"

Brugnasco, a small village on a southern slope in the upper Leventina at 1385 metres above sea level, which belongs to the municipality of Airolo, was chosen in 1908 by members of the Gymnasial-Turnverein Basel (GTV), the student gymnastics club of Basel’s only grammar school at the time, as the location for a colony house for its members. This was intended in particular as a starting point for mountain hikes and tours.

The Basler Ferienhaus Brugnasco association was founded on 27 February 1908 and the old house was purchased. Since then, young people and adults from Basel and the whole of Switzerland have been spending unforgettable holidays in Brugnasco. A second house was added in 1959.

The two houses are managed by the non-profit association Ferienhaus Brugnasco, which is run on a voluntary basis. Most of the refurbishment and renovation work is carried out by the committee members on regular renovation weekends.

To mark the 111th anniversary of the Basler Ferienhaus Brugnasco association, the history of the GTV houses 1908-2019 was recorded in a chronicle with an outline of the village history.
